Reuse

Consignes générales

Clothing, furniture, toys, electrical and electronic appliances, books... we all have everyday items that are in good condition and still working, but that we no longer use and are merely cluttering up our lives.

To avoid wasting resources, we need to rethink our consumption habits.

At Bruxelles-Propreté, we encourage reuse, a virtuous and vital approach that cuts down on waste, preserves natural resources, reduces our ecological footprint and promotes a circular economy.

What is reuse?

Reuse means giving an object a new lease of life instead of throwing it away. Unlike recycling (which involves converting materials), it extends the product’s life by repairing, reselling, donating or exchanging it.

A virtuous approach

Reusing things means both protecting the environment – by reducing waste and the use of scarce natural resources – and supporting the local economy. Buying or donating second-hand items can create jobs in Belgium and locally.

Reuse also supports companies that promote the social economy by funding initiatives to combat poverty and social exclusion in Belgium. Lastly, opting to reuse objects extends their lifespan and saves money. Buying second-hand, repairing, bargain-hunting and swapping usually costs less than spending money on new items.

How can it be done?

Working with various partners from the social economy, Bruxelles-Propreté is extending the life of objects that are still usable.

Social economy enterprises are pioneers that have been applying the principles of the circular economy for a long time now. Their activities combine social impact, sustainable community service and environmental protection, as well as the creation of long-term local jobs and waste prevention.

Let’s work together to give objects a longer life!

Our Recypark

Bruxelles-Propreté is delighted to be working with ViTeS to extend the life of objects that are still usable.

Instead of throwing these things away, you can drop them off at our Givekot, a dedicated reuse space where they will be given a new lease of life.

Depending on what they are, they will be sorted, cleaned, labelled and repaired if necessary. They will then be resold in ViTeS second-hand shops.

With your donations, you will be supporting numerous socio-occupational integration and poverty reduction projects in Brussels, such as:

  • donations of blankets and clothing to the homeless
  • donations of books, school bags and backpacks to disadvantaged children

Would you give the object to a friend or family member? If the answer is yes, there’s a place for it at the Givekot

Find our Givekots at the Demets and Buda Recypark.

At the Woluwe-Saint-Pierre Recypark, you can also drop off your items at the Petits Riens collection point.

Our Mobile Recypark

Bruxelles-Propreté works with some municipalities to offer you a local service for both the collection and recycling of things you no longer use. It’s a great way to protect the environment and improve the cleanliness of public spaces.

Mobile Recyparks are simple and accessible: you can drop off your bulky and chemical waste locally and ensure that the collected items are reused.

A Mobile Recypark reuse area is currently present in around ten participating municipalities.
